Mission Critical:  Project Executive

Dublin

The Company

Whilst the term unique and exceptional are consistently overused to describe a company, this development and project management business can truly boast offering something new and exciting for the current built environment market place. What sets the business apart is the ability to apply alternative and innovative methodologies, across the whole project life cycle, creating real added value for customers and stakeholders. This professional services unit has experienced strong, sustainable growth, in both Ireland and the UK, and now having been awarded a leading role on one of the largest data centre programmes in Ireland, if not Europe, the business is expanding further and is seeking to reinforce its expert team.

The Role

Through continued success in the realisation of major projects and programmes, the business has now secured a significant role, as Development and Programme Manager, on one of the largest and most exciting capital programmes to be undertaken in Ireland for at least a decade. Hugely challenging across the entire project life cycle from a technical, logistics, planning and implementation perspective, with complex stakeholder management dynamics, this programme is set to run at least for the next five years. The first phase has a capital value in excess of €500m and is now live with the genuine potential for three further phases. A Project Executive will be appointed for each phase which will comprise a number of significant sub-projects, with typical sub-project values c€100m, including data halls, energy centres, power generation compounds, utilities and major infrastructure works.  The Project Executive will oversee the development of fully operational facilities, potentially throughout the full project life cycle and will be responsible for adherence to the relevant business and commercial strategy. Given the complexity of the scheme, and the number of different stakeholders, it is vital that the Project Executive has operated at a senior level on large and complicated data centres previously. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Project Executive will be appointed to the Exco Board of the Critical Facilities business and be expected to contribute to the building of a focussed specialist team which will work in concert with additional phase specific teams, functional leads and subject matter experts. Whilst he or she must be client facing, it is vital they have the technical build knowledge in this environment to deliver such a complex and large-scale undertaking. This will include overseeing Health and Safety, design management, commercial performance and the unique attributes of a data centre development.

A high degree of systems integration will be adopted to provide reliable management information in real time and a best-in-class approach will be adopted for ESG matters.

The Candidate

The company will consider employing a project director from either a consultancy, client or main contracting background so long as they can demonstrate experience in playing a lead role in the initiation, planning, implementation and setting to work of major complicated mission critical projects. As importantly, the individual must provide confidence in their ability to operate under their own initiative and be comfortable with the requirements of operating at Project Executive level.  Whilst a well-rounded PD is required, the individual must be able to demonstrate a proven track record in delivering high-value data centres and/or major heavily engineered complexes.  The ideal candidate will be expected to build and lead an expert team which will cover a complex array of sub-projects within the scheme.

An understanding of the local Irish market is a distinct advantage together with a strong, industry specific, personal network.

The Opportunity

This is certainly one of the largest and most exciting capital programmes in Ireland. It will be providing an opportunity for someone to take project leadership of a multi-facetted phase, incorporating data halls, an energy centre, power generation compound, utilities and major infrastructure works, of what will be one of the most prestigious data centre complexes in Europe, deploying cutting edge technology and challenging custom and practice in the world of the built environment.

As you might expect, the role offers an excellent executive level compensation arrangement including a substantial basic salary and both short and long-term incentive arrangements for the right candidate.
